Shirley Chisholm, the icon, American politician and educator was the first Black woman to be elected to the United States Congress. She was also the first African-American candidate for a major party's nomination for President of the United States, and the first woman to run for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination. She also happens to be from Brooklyn! We honor her and her legacy. She was UNBOUGHT & UNBOSSED.
